Robert Coale

Chief Financial Officer

Running finance for manufacturers means measuring the work in return on sales and plant output, not just clean books. As CFO of a century-old, $30M Los Angeles packaging manufacturer, I lifted return on sales from 3.1% to 11.7%, cut the monthly close from 3 days to 2 hours, and direct a $20M capital program funded entirely from internal cash flow.

“Clean books are table stakes. My work is measured in return on sales and plant output: the P&L as a same-day, plant-floor decision tool.”

Profile

Operator’s finance, three decades deep

Three decades of finance leadership run through manufacturing plants, consumer brands, and ownership transitions. As Chief Financial Officer of Advance Paper Box Company, a century-old packaging manufacturer with 500,000 sq ft of manufacturing, warehouse, and distribution in Los Angeles, I direct a $30M annual budget across finance, accounting, HR, Epicor ERP, IT security, and regulatory compliance, and grew revenue from $25M to $35M by expanding the client base and the beauty industry vertical.

Ownership transition is the specialty. Supporting parent IBC’s LBO, MBO, and 1991 NYSE offering came first, at Mrs. Cubbison’s Foods. Selling my own lending firm to CFS Acceptance followed in 2014. Leading the capital and process plan for my current employer’s transition continues the thread, with $6.5M in PPP funding secured as crisis liquidity when COVID-19 hit and working capital reinvested into equipment and capacity rather than distributed.

AI-assisted finance is a daily workflow, not a slide. Claude and ChatGPT run inside my reporting and analysis, saving 10+ hours every week. The same instinct automated the monthly close from 3 days to 2 hours, with books closed same-day, and rebuilt production reporting around value per day, week, and month, lifting plant output 20% in two years.
